RES-PECT objectives

The mission of the RES‐PECT (Restraint Elimination System‐Practical Effective Control Techniques) program is to provide health agencies, schools, hospitals, and youth facilities with tools to significantly reduce the need for physically restraining clients. The desire is to integrate a philosophy of no restraint in conjunction with a program of body mechanics, which does not rely upon “force against force.”

The RES‐PECT program achieves these goals through the following objectives:
• Emphasize professionalism in the workplace.
• Reduce incidents through knowledge of each individual client.
• De‐escalate incidents through effective communications skills.
• Minimize the possibility of injury to caregivers, and clients, through the use of RES‐PECT’s
unique physical techniques.

The following is a description of RES‐PECT’s objectives.

Objective 1:
Emphasize professionalism in the workplace. RES‐PECT will address four components which create a more professional staff and workplace. These components are:

responsibilities.
3. Client interactions: Positive role model through proactive teaching and praise.

4. Identify and use calming techniques that could prevent and diffuse escalating situations

Minimize the possibility of injury to caregivers, and clients, through the use of RES‐PECT’s unique physical techniques. These techniques are based upon five key points that place RES‐PECT at the fore‐front of managing aggressive behaviors in clients:
1. Always move forward and behind your client
2. Never fight force with force
3. Know your limitations
4. Always maintain a professional demeanor
